Seasonal
Nursery & Gardens
Our nursery and gardens are located at our home on Route 172 in Surry, Maine. You will find a peaceful setting with a nursery, three small greenhouses, large market gardens, sitting and display gardens. We specialize in growing and selling seedlings for every color of sweet pea available as well as perennial sweet pea seedlings. A popular spring item is our trellised patio pot of Sweet peas for people without garden space that must have their Sweet peas! We also offer a selection of annual and perennial plants, herbs and unusual and exciting combinations for hanging baskets.
Year-Round Location "The Little Flower & Garden Shop"

Three miles down the street, you will find "The Little Flower & Garden Shop" located in the center of Surry Village also on Route 172 (1278 Surry Road). This is where you will find an abundance of fresh cut flowers, cottage style bouquets and our signature garden pot arrangements and of course, Sweet Peas, in season! We carry a wide selection of vases and bases for your floral creations, gifts for the gardener, assortment of Sue's homemade jams and pickles, cards, books and over 40 varieties of sweet pea seeds.
You can purchase sweet pea seeds and other select products via this website throughout the year.
My husband, Patrick and I, moved to Maine in 1992 just after getting married. We started our gardens in 1993 and Sue became a member of the Ellsworth Farmers' Market in 1994 where she sold vegetables, herbs, her homemade jams, pickles and salsas as well as bouquets of Sweet Peas. In 1998 we officially became known as Sweet Pea Gardens.
Sweet Pea Gardens gained national exposure when Sue did a feature segment about Sweet Peas for the Martha Stewart Living TV show which has been airing since 1999. We were featured in an article on Growing Sweet Peas in Martha Stewart's "Living" magazine in June 2001 and also fortunate to be included in the "Gardens Maine Style and Gardens Maine Style - ACT II" books by Rebecca Sawyer and Lynn Karlin.
We appeared in a feature
article about Sweet peas in the Feb/Mar 2003 issue of "Garden
Design";
the July 2004 issue of "Good Housekeeping"and the
"Downeast"
magazine July 2005 issue and more recently in "Organic Gardening" and "Country Living".

About our Gardens
Our gardens are created and maintained using organic methods. We raise over 30 types of specialty cut flowers, vegetables, greens, raspberries and hundreds and hundreds of dozens of sweet peas each year. We typically grow over 25 different varieties of sweet peas.

About Weddings
We offer year-round, full-service wedding designs and set-up. We can design flower arrangements for the tables, church, bridal bouquets, corsages or just provide buckets of glorious flowers and you can get creative and do your own arrangements.
About
Sue
Sue Keating, founder and owner of Sweet Pea Gardens, grew up in the Berkshires in Massachusetts and then prior to High School moved to a suburb outside of Boston. She earned a dual business degree from Syracuse Univeristy and went on to work for several corporations for many years. It wasn't until she moved to Maine with her husband that she discovered her "niche" and created Sweet Pea Gardens. Sue became a Master Gardener in 1999 through the U-Maine Cooperative Extension office in Ellsworth and continues to study and practice garden design. She is a member of MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association), the National Sweet Pea Society, Mid-Maine Growers Association, Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, Inc., and the Maine State Florist & Growers Association.
Sue usually speaks to several Garden Clubs throughout the year or hosts talks and tours at Sweet Pea Gardens.
Sue's love of gardening was spurred by watching her mother garden throughout her lifetime.
