About Sweet Pea Gardens ...

It began at the Ellsworth Farmers' Market in 1994 where Sweet Pea Gardens founder Sue Keating sold vegetables, herbs, homemade jams, pickles, salsa, and bouquets of Sweet Peas. Four years later, the enterprise became officially known as Sweet Pea Gardens and gained national exposure when it was featured on the Martha Stewart Living TV show. From there, Sweet Pea Gardens has been featured in Martha Stewart's "Living" magazine, "Gardens Maine Style" books by Rebecca Sawyer and Lynn Karlin, Country Living magazine and more. Flower & garden shop ... wedding designs and set-up ... workshops ... farmhouse vacation rental -- it all happens on Surry Road in Surry Village, Maine.

About Sue ...

Sue Keating, founder and owner of Sweet Pea Gardens, grew up in the Berkshires in Massachusetts and then prior to High School moved to a suburb outside of Boston. She earned a dual business degree from Syracuse Univerisity and went on to work for several corporations for many years. It wasn't until she moved to Maine with her husband that she discovered her "niche" and created Sweet Pea Gardens. Sue became a Master Gardener in 1999 through the U-Maine Cooperative Extension office in Ellsworth and continues to study and practice garden design. She is a member of MOFGA (Maine Organic Farmers and Growers Association), the National Sweet Pea Society, Mid-Maine Growers Association, Association of Specialty Cut Flower Growers, Inc., and the Maine State Florist & Growers Association.

Sue usually speaks to several Garden Clubs throughout the year or hosts talks and tours at Sweet Pea Gardens.

Sue's love of gardening was spurred by watching her mother garden throughout her lifetime.
